Summer Intensive June 12-23, 2006 The 2006 Summer Intensive will focus on the movement and choreographic process of Set and Reset (1983), the piece that brought international recognition to Trisha Brown as a leader of abstract choreography. Technique with Diane Madden, Brandi Norton, and Neal Beasley Mon-Fri, 10:00-11:45am This class taught by veteran Trisha Brown dancer, Diane Madden and company members Brandi Norton and Neal Beasley, introduces students to fundamentals of post-modern dance and Trisha Browns movement style. Warm-up sequences emphasize moving with clarity and ease by exploring articulation of the joints and how weight is supported through the skeleton. The class will draw awareness to points of initiation and sequencing of movement in the body, and prepare students for performing increasingly complex movement with freedom. Trisha Brown Repertory with Trina Thompson Mon-Fri, 12:00-1:45pm This class taught by senior company member and touring rehearsal director, Trina Thompson, explores Trisha Browns monumental work, Set and Reset (1983). Katrina will teach two distinct movement phrases from this piece, emphasizing use of weight, clarity of initiation, performance quality, and dancing with others. Students will explore staying true to the rhythm and dynamics of the phrase while working with Laurie Andersons musical score. The class will perform the repertory at the Student Showing on Friday, June 23rd. Enrollment in the Technique class is required in order to participate in Repertory class. Improvisation to Composition: Inside Set and Reset with Stacy Matthew Spence Mon-Fri, 2:30-4:30pm Since her early years of creating dances with the Judson Dance Theater, Trisha Brown has been captivated by the infinite ways movements can be manipulated, and the possibilities for developing structure and form. The foundation of this class is the experience of stepping inside the choreographic process of Set and Reset and learning how to use structures and forms to create a dance. The class will explore developing skills in improvising and manipulating phrases of movement, invaluable tools for any dancer or choreographer. Students will be challenged to make provocative choices and allow for the unexpected. Special Events These events are open to all participants in the Summer Intensive at no additional cost. For the general public, a $10 fee applies for each event. Lunchtime Video Showings Mon-Fri, 2:00-2:30pm Bring your lunch and learn more about Trisha Browns choreography at these daily video showings. Q&A with Trisha Brown Wed, June 14 5:00-6:30pm This is a rare opportunity to meet Trisha Brown in an intimate studio setting to discuss her choreographic work, specifically her Unstable Molecular Structures cycle, in which Set and Reset is included.
