Trisha Browns Latest Work In Progress Upon the successful completion and lauded presentation of Winterreise, an evening length work set to Franz Shuberts song-cycle, Ms. Brown is returning to abstract choreography. Trisha Brown is hard at work on a new piece for six dancers that will bring together her work with music and her association with the visual arts. She has invited her admired friend Elizabeth Murray to create a set and costumes for the new work. The two artists have long followed each others work and are discussing ideas about the collaboration, and choreography that will honor the strong element of shape in Ms. Murrays art. Color will be an important element and Ms. Murray envisions a set that will reflect changing choreographic tones with color variation. Ms. Brown and her Musical Director, Pedja Muzijevic, have selected a Sciarrino piano score as the musical ingredient for this collaborative project. Mr. Muzujevic who also worked with Trisha Brown before as the pianist for Winterreise. He will also perform the piano music live at the premiere in Cannesscheduled for December 2003and at the New York premiere the following season. "Set and Reset" Recognized as a Masterpiece by the French The landmark Trisha Brown choreography "Set and Reset" will become a part of a new program launched by the French Minister of National Education. Students planning to pursue careers in the arts will focus on artistic practice and cultural theory. The program for dance, designed by a group of educators and professionals, is based on specific works from the "patrimonial and contemporary repertory." The program has identify three 20th Century masterpieces for study during the students' final year: Trisha Brown's "Set and Reset," Vaslav Nijinsky's "L'Apres midi d'un Faune" and Merce Cunningham's "Changing Steps." Set & Reset/Reset in Colorado and London Set and Reset/Reset is quickly becoming the most popular restaging residency project TBDC offers to universities and schools around the world through its Education and Outreach program. Directed by former Company members, students learn the quintessential Trisha Brown movement of Set and Reset, along with elements of the choreographic process used to build the dance. Students create a new, unique version of the dance through which they are challenged as dancers and improvisers, and develop a sense of composition. The Set and Reset/Reset project moves beyond the traditional restaging project, allowing students to step inside the choreographic mind of Ms. Brown. TBDC and the London Contemporary Dance School have teamed up for Set and Reset/Reset: London. Two repertory projects are in the works with the first occurring this spring. Working with former Company member, Lance Gries, third year students will restage Set and Reset, and perform the work July 7-12 at The Place in London. Next fall, members of the post-graduate company will restage the work and tour their version throughout the UK. The University of Colorado has applied for funding from the NEAs National College Choreographic Initiative to support Set and Reset/Reset: Colorado. Former Company member and UC alum, Shelley Senter, will lead the student workshops. A Set and Reset/Reset project is in the planning stages for Taipei. Dance and Art in Dialogue Tours the Country Dance and Art in Dialogue, an exhibit that celebrates Trisha Browns work in the visual arts and her collaborations with major artists, opened last September at the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, Massachusetts.
