___________
On behalf of the Board of Directors and the Trisha Brown Dance Company, we invite you to join the Gala Committee for our extraordinary upcoming evening.
This year’s Gala is unlike anything we have done before. Staged at Brooklyn’s premiere roller-skating rink, the evening will honor the revolutionary legacies of Trisha Brown and Robert Rauschenberg through a bold, immersive reimagining of their early collaborations.
With the generous support of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation, we will present Pelican (1963) and Skunk Cabbage, Salt Grass and Waders (1967) side-by-side for the first time — staged in tribute to their original environments and playful, risk-taking spirit.
Originally created for and performed on roller skates, Pelican marked Rauschenberg’s debut choreography, fusing sculpture, movement, and theatrical surprise. Brown’s Skunk Cabbage, Salt Grass and Waders, an intimate and improvisational early work performed to her own spoken text, reflects the deeply personal, experimental ethos that would define her career.
More than six decades later, Trisha Brown Dance Company will reimagine these works in dialogue — acknowledging the profound artistic exchange, trust, and mutual influence between two of the most vital artists of the twentieth century. The evening will feature leading performers connected to the Cunningham and Brown lineages, as well as a soloist from New York City Ballet.
We would be grateful if you could let us know of your interest in joining the Gala Committee by April 1.
Tax-deductible as permitted by law (minus estimated goods & services). Details will be provided on your receipt.
